Gerry Uba

Gerald Uba, Ph.D., president, emigrated from Nigeria to Toronto and eventually settled in Portland, Oregon. Before his retirement, he worked in various positions with the Metro regional government for over 30 years as a trained regional planner. As a project developer and program manager, he has worked on earthquake hazard mitigation, affordable housing issues, solid waste management, and land use management. Additionally, Dr. Uba taught at Portland State University's Urban Studies and Planning Department. Currently, he serves as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Beaverton.

Highly involved in African community issues, Dr. Uba is a member and former chair of the IRCO Africa House Advisory Board. The Harambee Centre, Albina Community Development Corporation, and Franciscan Enterprises are among the boards on which he has served or chaired. Additionally, he is the founder and current patron of Amiri International Development Union, a non-profit organization dedicated to community development projects in Nigerian villages.
